HISTORY

The Women’s Leadership Conference debuted as the Women of Color Conference in 2007 as a way to provide women from all walks of life with education and development opportunities that specifically address the dynamic needs of both emerging and established women professionals. This vision was the result of collaboration among a group of women diversity leaders in our Las Vegas community and members of MGM Resorts’ Corporate Diversity team.

In the beginning years, the Women of Color Conference was jointly hosted by the Las Vegas American Indian, Asian, Latin and Urban Chambers of Commerce, with the Latin Chamber’s nonprofit foundation serving as fiscal agent. In 2009, the Women’s Chamber of Commerce of Nevada joined the host committee. Proceeds from the conference were donated to the nonprofit arms of these local chambers to support student scholarship programs and other initiatives. MGM Resorts International is proud to have been a major sponsor of the conference from the beginning.

In 2012, the 501(c)(3) MGM Resorts Foundation became the presenting sponsor of the event, which was rebranded as the Women’s Leadership Conference. The conference format also evolved, providing an exciting program allowing attendees to choose one of three leadership tracks custom designed to fit their professional needs. In 2012, proceeds from the 2011 conference were donated to Women’s Research Institute of Nevada at University of Nevada, Las Vegas. This began the tradition of donating the conference’s proceeds after costs to a local nonprofit organization serving women and/or girls.

In 2017, we proudly unveiled the conference’s latest brand evolution: “WLC.”

Over the years, the conference has grown in size, scope and reputation, drawing sellout crowds since 2014. Through stimulating programming and acclaimed national speakers, organizers have established it as the major women’s conference in the Western region.
